BERLIN, June 26, 2025: The world’s a mess — and sometimes you just need to smash something!
After a breakout year of opening for comedy megastars Michelle Wolf and David Cross, viral sensation Kyla Cobbler, and SNL writer Rosebud Baker, opera singer and Los Angeles native Steph DePrez returns to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her singular combination of opera, musical theater, comedy, and storytelling. From heartbreak to high notes, no topic is off limits: we’re talking boobs, blowjobs, and Beethoven. Perfect for fans of Renee Fleming, Iliza Shlesinger, and everyone in between. See the performer that Theatre Travels called “rambunctiously funny... clearly an expert at her craft.”
“8 Ways to Break a Glass (with an American Opera Singer)” is a romp of revelry and rage through Steph’s attempts to make a name for herself as an opera singer while looking for love in Berlin. Whether she’s the soprano soloist for Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, singing the word “oooh” 500 times for legendary label Tresor Records, or joining a German metal band, she’ll find a way – while sharing dating stories that have been viewed over 2.5 million times online.
American soprano Steph DePrez moved to Europe to sing opera. Now, she combines classical singing with stand-up comedy in a singular stage experience thrilling audiences in clubs, bars, and Soho Houses across Europe, in what The Wee Review called “pure Fringe.” She first brought a show to the Fringe in 2023, doubled her audience in 2024 and nabbed a feature on BBC News, toured Germany this past spring, and is poised for a breakout run as she brings her new show to a more central venue this year at the Dragonfly Cocktail Bar off of Grassmarket.
Steph DePrez began stand-up in Los Angeles studying with The Groundlings School and Upright Citizens Brigade. She’s sung as soprano soloist at Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Konzerthaus.
